mande mandela's condition. i have to tell you when you read this morning'sines in the paper, they describe the mood out on the street. mandela fights for his life. this one reads it is time to let him go. this is a statement that was given by mandela's longtime friend. he gave the statement this morning to the sunday times. nelson mandela was brought here about 1:30 saturday morning for a recurring lung infection. we're told his wife has been by his side the entire time. this is the fourth time the former south african president and civil rights leader has been hospitalized in the last six months. three of those visits were really focused on this lung infection. he's continued to battle back each and every time from this illness. but there is a senior government

official who has described mandela's condition this time around bad. there were church services this morning where many were praying for mandela. i have also spoken to many people here and it's just too difficult for them to talk about mandela's condition. you say when you look at this meant to this nation they don't want to discuss his health right now. he's about to 95 next month. as his friend said in the article he said this time is to quote, release him so god may have his own way. normally some of the mandela's family friends come out and make a statement. they haven't so far. and they're asking for their privacy, dan. >> signs of concern for this morning. he has battled back before. brandi hitt reporting from south

monica college library. officers showing off this duffle bag they said held his ammunition. for at least two guns. she was in the library and somehow made it unharmed. >> three girls ran into the library yelling that there is a shooter he has a gun, help, oh no. there were three consecutive shots, bing, bing, i'm just happy to be alive. >> reporter: police say the killer's ram page when a nearby house was engulfed in flames. as the gunman ran from the home, he carjacked a woman. >> he forced her to drive at gun point. >> reporter: he shot a bus and this suv killing the driver. 68-year-old carlos franco and leaving the passenger franco's daughter in critical condition.

minutes later, the gunman arrived on campus. >> they stacked items found in the safe room against the door, hunkered down and avoided shots that were fired through the drywall at them as they were in that room. >> reporter: police encounsel terd the gunman, shooting him multiple times, killing him. four victims and the shooter. one victim still in the hospital. the 26-year-old, unfortunately, she's not expected to make it. later today, a vigil will be held to try to bring this community together. >> despite that tragedy, it's chilling to think that carnage could have been worse. a strange mystery brewing in jacksonville, florida, an active navy officer has gone missing. last seen 12 days ago. this morning, police are looking for any leads they can find and

abc's reena ninan has the latest. >> reporter: he's a 16-year career. they have joined the search as authorities are trying to piece together where he may have gone. this morning, marks 12 days since vanessa williams last saw her husband. chief petty officer kevin williams. >> he's a great dad and a great husband. >> reporter: his wife, family and friends were passing out flyers at the apartment complex where they say the 39-year-old was last seen. >> at this time, he's awol. >> reporter: police say they don't suspect foul play. he was first reported missing by his wife. after she said they have an argument in the mall parking lot. >> i was mad. i said just wait here.
